Sport to Life: Coach 1
Sport is a powerful tool for teaching children essential life skills, yet traditional coaching methods often fail to do so intentionally. Simply being part of a team does not automatically teach leadership, teamwork, or respect - these skills must be actively nurtured by coaches. Sport to Life: Coach 1 equips coaches to teach life skills through sport and play, helping them integrate these skills into session plans using engaging, play-based challenges. Designed for leaders working with children aged 7-11, this course develops resilience, confidence, emotional regulation, and cooperation through a focus on topics such as trying new things, keeping calm, believing in yourself and getting along with others - skills that enhance performance in sport and seamlessly transfer to school, home, and community. Developed by Free Play for Kids, a registered charity dedicated to teaching life skills through sport, this course is grounded in proven methodologies such as Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility (TPSR), Sport-Based Youth Development (SBYD), Positive Youth Development (PYD), and Trauma-Informed Sports Programs (TISP).
