Free Play Shop Food Literacy Workshop

Food Literacy Workshop

$50.00

In this Food Literacy Workshop, students dive into the basics of whole foods and how healthy ingredients grown right in their classroom can nourish their bodies.

The session teaches students how to build balanced, nutrient-rich meals using simple, natural ingredients. Each workshop spotlights a featured food, connecting its benefits to real life. Our instructor will demonstrate a quick, nutritious recipe using this featured food, showing students how easy it is to enjoy whole foods in everyday meals. To bring the lesson home, students will receive food bags with ingredients and a recipe card, empowering them to recreate the dish with their families. This workshop is designed to build students' understanding of nutrition while encouraging healthy eating habits at home and beyond.

How to Book a Workshop: Teachers can easily book a workshop by selecting from one of our package options, where larger packages offer better per-class pricing. A $50 deposit is required at the time of booking, and a staff member will follow up to confirm the remaining balance and finalize session details. Let us help you cultivate a love for food and nutrition in your classroom!

Single Class Rate: $180 per class | Package Rate: $650 for 4 classes | Annual Subscription: $1,400 for 10 classes

Free Play for Kids is excited to partner with AMA’s School Garden Studio to bring hands-on food literacy education into classrooms across Alberta! Our interactive classes teach children about nutrition, food security, and the benefits of growing and preparing a healthy meal. Each session includes hands-on activities, from simple meal preparations to learning about the journey of food from seed to plate.

Schools can book these workshops to deepen students’ understanding of food and health, fostering lifelong healthy habits. Our goal is to make food literacy accessible while supporting teachers and students in creating meaningful connections between garden-grown foods and nutritious meals.

Together with AMA’s School Garden Studio, Free Play for Kids is helping to cultivate a new generation of food-conscious learners.
