Belmont Sobeys is a Food to Play Supporter + More!
At Free Play for Kids, partnerships often begin with a shared goal - making sure kids have the opportunity to play, grow, and thrive. But every once in a while, a partnership grows into something even more meaningful: a true example of what community looks like in action. That’s exactly what we’ve found with Belmont Sobeys.
Belmont Sobeys has become one of our biggest supporters of the Food to Play program. Their support goes far beyond financial contributions. From the beginning, the team at Belmont Sobeys has been committed to rolling up their sleeves and being part of the experience alongside our staff and the kids we serve.
Store owner Jerry M. and assistant manager Jason have shown what it means to be present in a community. They’ve attended tournament days, jumped into games with the kids, and brought an energy that instantly lifts the atmosphere. Their willingness to simply show up, play, and connect has made a lasting impression on the youth in our programs.
But their impact doesn’t stop on the field.
Behind the scenes, Belmont Sobeys has also been instrumental in helping make our Food to Play program possible. Working alongside our Food to Play Manager and certified nutritionist, Dacia, their team has helped prepare and pack food hampers, “super snacks,” and daily snacks that ensure kids in our programs have access to the nutrition they need to stay active and healthy.
For many of the children we serve, these meals and snacks are an essential part of their day. Knowing that community partners are actively involved in making that happen sends a powerful message: people care.
One of the most meaningful signs of this partnership’s impact is how the kids themselves respond. Many now recognize Jerry and Jason, not just as supporters of the program, but as familiar faces in their community. When kids visit Belmont Sobeys with their families, they often look around hoping to see them. That kind of recognition speaks volumes about the relationships being built.
This partnership is a perfect example of what can happen when local businesses move beyond sponsorship and become truly engaged in the communities they serve. Belmont Sobeys hasn’t just supported Food to Play—they’ve become part of the team.
At Free Play for Kids, we believe strong communities are built when people come together around a shared purpose. Belmont Sobeys, Jerry, Jason, and their team embody that spirit, and we are incredibly grateful to have them alongside us as we continue creating opportunities for kids to play, connect, and grow.
