Job Summary
Free Play for Kids is seeking an energetic and community-minded individual to join our team as an In-School Activator. In this role, you will deliver engaging in-school sessions across Free to Play (FTP) school sites, promoting Free to Play, Jr. Wolves, and Wolves programming, with the goal of driving registration numbers across Free Play's programs. This includes leading a daily Free to Play lunch league, a small, drop-in sport league run during the school lunch hour.
This position may be held on its own, or in addition to a coaching role within the organization — such as a Jr. Wolves coach, a Free to Play (FTP) Head Coach or Assistant Coach, or a Wolves Head Coach position (soccer, ice hockey, ball hockey, basketball, or other Wolves sports). Where this role is combined with a coaching position, the sport-specific responsibilities, qualifications, and certifications for that role are set out in its own job description, and apply in addition to the activation duties described here. This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable engaging kids in a classroom or gym setting and building relationships with schools, families, and players to grow participation across Free Play's programs.
Education & Qualifications
Experience delivering programming, activations, or presentations to children or youth in a school or group setting is a strong asset.
Comfortable with public speaking and engaging large groups of children (e.g., school assemblies, gym classes) to promote program registration.
Coaching or youth sport-programming experience is a strong asset. Where this role is combined with a coaching position, the qualifications and certifications required for that specific coaching role (e.g., sport-specific NCCP certification, club-level coaching pedigree) apply in addition to the requirements below.
Standard First Aid Certification and CPR training, or ability to obtain quickly.
Ability to work flexible hours, including daytime hours for in-school activations and the daily lunch league, plus evenings and weekends when this role is combined with a coaching position's practices and games.
Ability to travel to multiple school and program locations across Edmonton within a single work day.
Valid driver's license with a reliable vehicle.
Clear, up-to-date Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector check.
Proficiency with Amilia, Connecteam, Google Suite, and related applications is considered an asset.
Key Responsibilities
In-School Activation
Deliver daily in-school sessions across FTP school sites, promoting Free to Play, Jr. Wolves, and Wolves programming.
Lead the daily Free to Play lunch league, a school-lunch-hour drop-in sport league running approximately 11:30 AM – 12:00 PM, in which participants play a sport together at their school during the lunch break.
Drive registration numbers across Free Play's programs through engaging, high-energy activations.
Build and maintain relationships with school staff and administrators to coordinate activation scheduling, lunch league logistics, and site access.
Track and report on activation activities, registration leads, and program interest generated at each site, including participation in the daily lunch league.
Coaching Duties (when combined with a coaching role)
Where this position is held alongside a Jr. Wolves coach, FTP Head Coach or Assistant Coach, the responsibilities set out in that role's job description apply in addition to the activation duties above.
Communicate regularly with the relevant Program Manager regarding scheduling and how activation, lunch league, and coaching commitments fit together.
Complete required training and certifications through the Free Play training program, such as Making Ethical Decisions and Safe Sport courses.
Understand the power of sport as a tool for social good.

Position Conditions
This is a part-time, contract-based position of up to 30 hours per week; hours may increase when this role is combined with a coaching position.
Hours will include daytime hours for in-school activation sessions and the daily Free to Play lunch league (approximately 11:30 AM – 12:00 PM at each school), plus evenings and weekends when this role is paired with a coaching position's practices and games.
Ability to travel to multiple school and program locations across Edmonton during a single work day is required.
The job is performed in schools, recreation centres, and sport facilities; work settings may vary depending on the season, schedule, and whether the role is combined with a coaching position.
The potential for contract renewal is dependent on program outcomes and organizational needs.
