Sport to Life lesson of the week

This week we have learned to play with others!

This week, we learned about playing with others. The goal of this lesson is to encourage kids to introduce themselves to new groups and get along with people they haven't met or played with before!

It's important that Kids learn to play with others so they understand how to participate and get along with others regardless of current relationships.

By understanding this lesson, kids may benefit from enhanced social skills, emotional resilience, belongingness, and stronger relationships.

We learned to implement this with the use of challenges in play that will encourage kids to play with others in an exciting and rewarding way. Some of these include..

  • Teammate bingo - assign a bingo sheet where each box has to be signed by someone, add prizes to everyone who gets a bingo to incentivize kids going out and meeting each other.

  • New partner - have the children choose one partner for the day, it has to be someone they haven't played with before.

  • Listen and learn: Challenge kids to listen before speaking during conversations.

  • Acts of kindness - challenge the kids to do at least one act of kindness for someone else

  • Problem solvers - challenge the kids to act as problem solvers using the H.E.L.P method

Of course, Kids may need some extra help in learning this lesson through the challenges we've given them. That's why we learned that there are adaptations that we can do to these lessons to help kids master them and understand the lesson of the day.

  • Team shuffle-Up

  • Buddy system

  • Gratitude moment

  • Helping hand

  • Huddle and vote

This has been a quick snapshot of what we've learned this week. Stay tuned for more!
