Recipe of The Week: Pita Pizza
We had such a great Food Session in the North! We started off with juicy watermelon, which is always a treat for the kids, and then learned how easy Pita Pizzas are to make. With the Pepperoni being Halal, everyone was able to participate!
Not only is Pita Pizza easy to make, but it’s also very nutritious. Pita pizzas are rich in carbs, which are our bodies’ #1 source of fuel. They provide our bodies and minds with energy to play and grow!
On top of that, the main ingredient—pita—has a rich history and a wide variety of uses. This ancient, yeast-leavened flatbread is a staple in the Middle Eastern diet and is primarily made from wheat. Pita is incredibly versatile: it can be used as a wrap, roasted into chips, or even as a pizza crust—just like the kids used to use when making their own mini pizzas! Sometimes, it's even used in place of foil to soak up the juices from grilled meats, acting like a delicious, edible sponge.
