Sports Specialist
Job Summary
Free Play for Kids is seeking passionate and reliable Sport Specialists to support our Jr. Wolves programs across Edmonton. These programs give youth the chance to build their skills, confidence, and love of sport in a fun, supportive environment.
As a Sport Specialist, you’ll work closely with Regional Managers and Head Coaches to deliver high-quality training sessions and games for both boys’ and girls’ Jr. Wolves teams. You’ll play an active role in leading practices, managing equipment, and ensuring a safe, inclusive, and positive experience for all participants.
This role is ideal for energetic individuals with a strong background in sport and a passion for mentorship and community impact.
Education & Qualifications
Working toward or completed a diploma/degree in Kinesiology, Physical Education, Sport & Recreation, Education, or related fields
Experience coaching youth in Soccer & Hockey, or strong playing experience with an interest in coaching
Standard First Aid & CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
Clear, up-to-date Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check
Experience using tools like Google Workspace, Google Meet, or Connecteam is an asset
Driver’s licence and access to transportation are an asset
Responsibilities
Support the delivery of Jr. Wolves practices and game days, focusing on player development, teamwork, and sportsmanship
Lead and assist with structured, skill-based training sessions in Soccer & Hockey
Promote Free Play’s Sport to Life values, emphasizing inclusion, confidence, and resilience through sport
Maintain equipment, setup, and cleanup of practice spaces daily
Record shift notes and observations to support ongoing program improvement
Collaborate with Regional Managers and Head Coaches to ensure consistency and quality across all regions
Serve as a positive role model and mentor, creating an environment where every participant feels supported and valued
Skills & Knowledge
Passionate about youth development through sport
Strong understanding of Soccer & Hockey fundamentals
Dependable, organized, and detail-oriented
Effective communicator with both youth and colleagues
Adaptable and able to thrive in dynamic, community-based settings
Commitment to equity, inclusion, and positive youth development
Position Conditions
Start Date: December 2025
Schedule:
M - W & F - 4:00 - 6:00 PM
Th - 2:00 - 5:30 PM
Reports to: Regional Manager
Hours: Approximately 10 hours per week
Wage: $20–$22/hour (based on experience)
Positions Available: 8 total (2 per region)
Seasonal, part-time role of approximately 8–10 hours per week
Work is primarily in schools, recreation centers, and community facilities across Edmonton
