Jr. Wolves Soccer Coach

Job Summary

Free Play for Kids is seeking passionate and reliable Soccer Coach to support our Jr. Wolves sports programs across Edmonton. While this role is primarily focused on soccer, Soccer Coaches must also be comfortable leading one monthly Ball Hockey game day as part of our multi-sport development model.

These programs give youth the chance to build their skills, confidence, and love of sport in a fun, supportive environment. As a Soccer Coach, you’ll work closely with Regional Managers and Head Coaches to deliver high-quality soccer practices, support Ball Hockey game days, and help ensure a safe, inclusive, and positive experience for all participants. This role is ideal for energetic individuals with a strong background in sport, especially soccer and a passion for mentorship and community impact.

Education & Qualifications

  • Working toward or completed a diploma/degree in Kinesiology, Physical Education, Sport & Recreation, Education, or related fields

  • Experience coaching youth in soccer (required)

  • Experience with hockey or ball hockey (or a willingness to learn and lead monthly game days)

  • Standard First Aid & CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)

  • Clear, up-to-date Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check

  • Experience using tools like Google Workspace, Google Meet, or Connecteam is an asset

  • Driver’s licence and access to transportation are an asset

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support Jr. Wolves soccer practices focused on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship

  • Run and support a monthly Ball Hockey game day, helping guide players through basic gameplay and team participation

  • Assist with structured, skill-based training sessions in soccer and introductory ball hockey

  • Promote Free Play’s Sport to Life values, emphasizing inclusion, confidence, and resilience through sport.

  • Maintain equipment, complete setup and cleanup, and ensure safe play environments

  • Record shift notes and observations to support ongoing program improvement

  • Collaborate with Regional Managers and Head Coaches to ensure consistency and quality across all regions

  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor, helping every participant feel supported and valued

Skills & Knowledge

  • Passion for youth development through sport

  • Strong understanding of soccer fundamentals

  • Comfortable teaching or facilitating basic ball hockey gameplay

  • Dependable, organized, and detail-oriented

  • Effective communicator with both youth and colleagues

  • Adaptable and able to thrive in dynamic, community-based settings

  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and positive youth development

Position Conditions

  • Start Date: January 2026 (as soon as possible)

  • Schedule:

    • Mon–Wed & Fri: 4:00–6:00 PM

    • Thurs: 2:00–5:30 PM

  • Reports to: Regional Manager

  • Hours: Approximately 10 hours per week

  • Wage: $20–$22/hour (based on experience)

  • Positions Available: 6 coaches

  • Seasonal, part-time role (8–10 hours/week)

  • Work is primarily in schools, recreation centers, and community facilities across Edmonton
