Head Coach - Wolves Soccer Club

Job Summary

The Wolves Athletic Club, run by Free Play for Kids, is looking for part-time Head Soccer Coaches to lead our soccer teams. 

You will operate under the guidance of our Soccer Manager. Your focus will be on constructing and executing practice and game plans designed to not only provide engaging sessions that emphasize, but also showcase you as a great leader and mentor. 

Education & Qualifications

  • Required Canada Soccer C Diploma or in progress; Asset: Canada Soccer B Diploma

  • Required Standard First Aid Certification and CPR training or ability to obtain quickly.

  • Required clear up-to-date criminal and vulnerable sector check or ability to obtain quickly.

  • Schedule flexibility to coach practices between 4-6pm two to three times per week and one game per week in the evening or on weekends.

  • 5+ years Head Coaching a team is considered an asset.

  • Beneficial if working towards or completed, a degree or diploma in Physical Education, Sport and Recreation, Kinesiology, Education, Sociology, Psychology, Early Childhood Education, or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare structured training sessions in advance using curriculum and/or seasonal plans for youth between the ages of 13-19.

  • Wear appropriate coaching clothes and represent the Wolves professionally

  • Arrive prepared, organized and on time for all sessions and games

  • Leading practices, games, drills, and activities with the ultimate goal of creating safe, accessible, and inclusive spaces for kids to play, belong, and grow.

  • Set expectations for focus/listening during coaching moments

  • Deliver pre-game/pre-practice messaging & a debrief after each session and game

  • Training athletes to play soccer and compete in leagues and tournaments.

  • Managing participant registration and ensuring accurate and timely enrollment.

  • Take attendance consistently and support athlete accountability

  • Maintaining participant communication through timely and informative updates, addressing inquiries, and establishing effective channels to ensure clear and consistent communication.

  • Conducting formal and informal skills assessments for program participants.

  • Modeling key organization values through interactions with all internal and external partners and team members.

  • Relating to youth from diverse communities and acting as a mentor and role model for kids in the program.

  • Assisting the Program Manager/Coordinator with community partnerships, equipment inventory & management, and player identification and recruitment.

  • Participating in work assignments arising from special events, special projects, or overall program initiatives.

  • Completing additional training and certifications as required through the Free Play training program, such as Making Ethical Decisions and Safe Sport courses.

  • Understanding the power of sport as a tool for social good. Building a strong team culture based on respect, accountability and belonging.

Position Conditions

  • This is a part-time paid position of approximately 10 hours per week.

  • The job is performed in recreation settings, but work settings may vary depending on projects.
